I am a Postdoctoral researcher with expertise in bioinorganic chemistry and structural biology. I got my PhD at the university of illinois Urbana Champaign in biophysics and quantitative biology. My hobbies include brewing beer and home improvement projects.
I joined the Interdisciplinary Life Science (PULSe) Program in 2023 after earning my Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Brasília, Brazil. My research focuses on developing and validating computer-aided synthesis planning tools for enzyme chemistry, with the goal of enabling more sustainable routes to pharmaceutical synthesis. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, and solving puzzles.
Hi! I am Joel Kuriakose, a graduate student in Dr. Sankar’s lab. I completed my undergraduate studies in Biological Engineering at Purdue University and am currently pursuing a Master’s in the same field. My research focuses on developing computational tools for enzymatic late-stage functionalization in drug discovery. I also work on enzyme recommendation models that use machine learning to link proposed reactions with suitable enzyme sequences, along with building curated datasets to support these predictions. Outside of research, I read, watch anime, and workout.
I joined the Interdisciplinary Life Science (or PULSe) program in 2024 after completing my Bachelor's degree in Human Biology from Utah State University. My research in the lab is focused on developing computational tools to create Polyketide Synthase Pathways to produce a variety of molecules, specifically focused on bioplastic monomers. My hobbies include cooking, board games, painting, and spending time with my family.
I joined Purdue University’s Interdisciplinary Life Science (PULSe) Program in 2024 after earning a Master’s degree in Pharmacoinformatics from the NIPER, SAS Nagar, India, and a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Prior to starting my PhD, I worked as a Research Associate at Satya Pharma Innovations in Hyderabad, India. My research focuses on developing and validating computational tools for the deorphanization of orphan polyketide synthases (PKSs), with the goal of linking uncharacterized sequences to their potential natural products. Outside the lab, I enjoy traveling, camping, cooking, swimming and playing cards. I am also an active member of the Purdue University Tagore Society (PUTS).
I am a first-year graduate student that joined Dr. Sankar's lab through the PULSe program. I am currently working on in vitro reconstitution of enzymatic pathways for bioplastic production. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Virginia. Before starting graduate school at Purdue, I participated in the NIH postbac program where I worked in a molecular biology lab at the National Cancer Institute. When not in the lab, I enjoy spending time with friends, traveling, and puzzles.
I'm a graduate student in the PULSe Program. I earned dual B.S. degrees in Biochemistry from Stony Brook University, New York, and Biotechnology from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan. My research focuses on the computational annotation of natural product biosynthetic gene clusters and polyketide synthases, as well as discovering and experimentally validating novel chemoenzymatic pathways for small-molecule biosynthesis. Outside the lab, I love exploring new coffee shops and bars, hiking trails, binge-watching TV series, reading, and I've recently gotten into baking.
I am a Ph.D. student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University, where I work on chemo-enzymatic retrosynthetic pathway planning, with a broader interest in computational chemistry, and AI/ML for enzyme function prediction. I completed my M.S. in Pharmacoinformatics at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali, and my Bachelor of Pharmacy at JNTU-Kakinada in India. My research and prior industry experience have focused on developing computational methods and bioinformatics tools for drug discovery, biocatalysis, and natural product analog design. In my free time, I mostly doom-scroll and occasionally try (and fail) to pick up new hobbies.
